How BuzzBuddy works: sources and methods
Last updated: October 24, 2026
BuzzBuddy helps you find an energy drink by taste: flavor, sweetness, sourness, mouthfeel,
aftertaste and energy kick, plus nutrition facts. It covers 344 drinks from
25 brands. 90 of them have their own product page, and there are
6 guides for specific needs.
Where the taste notes come from
From 7,208 public posts that mention energy drinks:
- Public discussion forums: about 9 in 10
- Retailer reviews: about 1 in 10
- A small number from review sites, editorial reviews and video reviews (64 posts)
The people who wrote these posts chose to write them. They are not a survey or a
representative sample of drinkers.
How posts become taste notes
- An AI model reads each post and records which drink it is about and which taste words it
uses, picked from a fixed list of 69 terms (for example sweet, sour, smooth,
syrupy, artificial, aftertaste). It keeps the exact words from the post that support each
note. Together the posts hold 11,336 drink mentions.
- Every post was read with the same model, the same instructions and the same list of
terms, so results from different posts can be compared.
- Drink names in posts, including nicknames, are matched to a product list built from
brands' own websites and retailer listings. A mention that cannot be matched to one drink is left out rather
than guessed.
- Sweetness and sourness show the level reviewers describe most often for that drink
(light, medium or heavy for sweetness). The overall "taste vibe" is only shown once a drink
has at least 3 mentions.
Where the nutrition facts come from
Nutrition facts (calories, sugar, sodium, caffeine and so on) come from published sources:
the brand's own product page, a photo of the label, or several listings that agree.
Where we looked a drink up, we record the source and the date it was checked.
For 90 of the 344 drinks, the facts come from that drink's own
source. For the other 254 they are estimates, mostly (205) copied from
a closely related drink in the same product line, the rest from a single web listing or
another weaker source.
Every estimated value is marked (est.) on the page.
Which drinks get pages and guides
- A drink gets its own product page once it has at least 10 reviewer
mentions. Below that, a page would be mostly empty.
- The clean-tasting and no-aftertaste guides need at least 5 reviewer
mentions per drink, none of them flagging the problem. The sugar-free-but-sweet guide needs
0 g sugar and at least one reviewer calling the drink sweet. Guides built on nutrition facts
(sodium, caffeine) use the label numbers. Each guide states its rule at the top.
Limits
- How often a drink is mentioned shows how much people wrote about it, not how popular it is
or how many people buy it.
- The AI can misread a post or attach a note to the wrong drink. Notes are summaries of
what reviewers wrote, not lab measurements.
- Estimated nutrition values can be wrong, and brands change recipes. Check the can before
relying on a number.
- The taste data was built in August 2026 from posts collected before then. Newer flavors
may be missing or thin.
- BuzzBuddy does not track prices, store availability or full ingredient lists, and it does
not give medical or health advice.
What we do not publish
We do not publish the underlying posts or the extracted data, and there is no download.
Pages show summaries only: the taste words reviewers use most, levels and counts.
Corrections
If something looks wrong, tell us. Use Send Feedback in the
BuzzBuddy app, suggest a correction on a drink's scorecard, or email
cosmicmind1404@gmail.com. A person checks each correction before it
changes a drink's taste data. A few scorecard fields also show what users have reported, always
with the number of reports next to it. Changes to how the data is built are listed below.
Update history
- October 24, 2026: Added this sources and methods page, and a visible last-updated date on product and guide pages. Guides now list qualifying drinks that have no page of their own as plain text instead of linking to a missing page.
- Late August 2026: Added product pages for drinks with at least 10 reviewer mentions, and the six guides.
- August 21, 2026: Nutrition facts are marked (est.) value by value, so a measured number and an estimated one on the same drink are no longer labelled alike.
- August 14, 2026: Fixed the taste-reading setup (one AI model, one set of instructions, one list of taste terms) so every post is read the same way.
